Botetourt to host parent workshop on childhood anxiety

Childhood anxiety is the topic of a parent workshop on Tuesday, Feb. 25 in the Botetourt Elementary School library. The evening begins with a pizza dinner at 6 p.m. followed by the workshop from 6:15 to 7 p.m.

Some children have specific worries while others may experience more general feelings of anxiety, a release said. They may agonize about activities or situations that many children find enjoyable or they may fixate on such things as weather, wars or getting lost.

Children’s anxiety can affect behavior, health and academic performance, the release said. The workshop will explain the characteristics of children with anxiety and give parents tips on how to nurture their child’s confidence.

The workshop will be led by Abingdon Elementary counselors Elizabeth Gentry and Amy Hoerger. Child care can be accommodated with registration by Feb. 21. To reserve a space, contact Valerie Lewis at 804-693-0654 or vlewis@gc.k12.va.us.  ...
