Botetourt named Title I Distinguished School

Botetourt Elementary was one of 46 schools recently recognized by the Virginia Board of Education as a Title I Distinguished School.

Schools receiving the recognition met all state and federal accountability requirements for two consecutive years and achieved SOL pass rates at the 60th percentile or higher for reading and mathematics. The recognition is based on student performance on SOL tests during the 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 school sessions. 

Title I provides financial assistance to support instructional programs in schools with high numbers of percentages of low-income students. For Title I determinations, low-income students are those that receive free or reduced-price school meals. Abingdon, Achilles, Botetourt and Petsworth elementary schools receive Title I funds. Bethel does not because its percentage of low-income students falls just below the division-wide average, which is currently 36.36 percent.
