Borden will not seek reelection to county board

York district Supervisor Carter Borden, 73, announced Tuesday that he will not be seeking reelection to the Gloucester County Board of Supervisors in 2014.

"I have served to the best of my ability," Borden said, "and I have really enjoyed it. If I were younger, I’d stay right in it and maybe even have aspirations to do something bigger."

Borden said most people who voted for him in 2009 knew that he would likely not be running for reelection due to his age.

He said he wanted to make the announcement early so that anyone who may be interested in running for the seat will have plenty of time to start their campaign. "There are many capable people in the York district that would make for an outstanding supervisor," Borden said.

Since he will be 75 in the first year of his second term, Borden said the role of a supervisor takes a toll on one’s well-being, especially when he is still working another job at the same time.
