The body of a deceased person was discovered by citizens Tuesday in the wooded area behind Main Street Center in Gloucester, according to Capt. Jamie Sharp of the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office.

GCSO investigators are working with the Tidewater Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine the identity of the person that was found and the cause and manner of death. At this point, Sharp said, there is no indication of foul play or of any threat to the public. This case will remain under investigation pending the results of an autopsy and positive identification of the deceased.

With this case being considered an active investigation, no further information will be released at this time, Sharp said.
