Boat overturns in York River

A boat overturned in the York River near Sarah’s Creek on Saturday morning, May 24, throwing the three occupants into the air. They landed in the water and were rescued by a response boat from the York County Department of Fire and Life Safety.
According to a press release from the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources, the incident occurred around 10:49 a.m. Emergency vessels from Abingdon Fire and Rescue responded in addition to York County’s DFLS.
The preliminary investigation indicated that a line attached to the port side cleats on the vessel tangled around the propeller, said the release. This caused the transom to be pulled down and the boat to fill with water.
The bow then rose into the air and ejected all three occupants, said the release. They were all wearing life jackets and there were no injuries.
