Board re-hiresbuilding official

The Mathews County Board of Supervisors held an emergency closed session last Thursday in the historic courthouse to discuss the hiring of an interim building official and the salary that would go along with the job. The board convened at 6:30 p.m., briefly returned to open session at 7:15 to add language that would allow them to discuss the hiring of a full-time building official and the performance of a specific employee, then returned to closed session. After a final return to open meeting, the board voted unanimously to re-hire former building official Jon Morr on a part-time basis of up to 28 hours per week until March 14, anticipating that a new building official will be able to begin work on March 15. The resolution accompanying the motion placed specific requirements on Morr, including that he not undertake any work related to Hole in the Wall, the county-owned restaurant at 384 Old Ferry Road, unless specifically authorized by the board....
