Board of Equalization to begin reassessment hearings

The Mathews County Board of Equalization will begin meeting this month with county residents who have concerns about the recent reassessment on their property.

Betsy Witt, secretary for the board of equalization, has already begun scheduling appointments for residents. She said hearings will begin on Monday, Jan. 24, when the board will meet from 6-9 p.m.

The board will also meet on Thursday, Jan. 27 from 6-9 p.m.; Wednesday, Feb. 9 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Thursday, Feb. 17 from 6-9 p.m.

Slots are filling quickly, said Witt, but more meetings will be scheduled if there’s greater demand. The board of equalization will meet until March 15, if necessary, she said, but appointments must be made in advance. The deadline for scheduling appointments is Jan. 31.

To make an appointment, call the commissioner of the revenue’s office at 725-7168 and ask for Witt. If she’s not available at that time, she said she will return all calls.
