Alli Mackey, a sophomore at Mathews High School, brought home a blue ribbon Saturday from the Interscholastic Equestrian Show in Virginia Beach. Mackey and the other riders picked their mounts out of a hat, each drawing a horse they had never ridden before. She mastered the ride in a large class of riders to take the top prize; she was in a class called walk-trot-canter. Mackey is being trained by Leigh Rigsby of Whippoorwill Farm, an equestrian facility in Shacklefords. A 15-year-old Hunter equestrian, she has been riding at Whippoorwill since she was 9. ...
