Blue Devils’ win streak at seven games

The Mathews High School varsity baseball team finished up a season sweep of Rappahannock last Wednesday, beating the visiting Raiders, 14-6. The Devils would keep the win streak going in a busy week, defeating Windsor, West Point and Charles City.

Rappahannock

Mathews scattered 13 hits with five Devils getting multiple hits in last week’s win over the Raiders. Jalen Matthews led the charge, going 3-for-4 at the plate. Leading by one run in the bottom of the fifth, MHS caught fire offensively, scoring six more runs off the big bats of Christian Williams, Cody Tunstall, Brandon Williams, Ethan Armistead and Matthews to put the game away.

Windsor

The Devils played host to Windsor on Friday, winning a closely-fought battle, 3-2. Williams only gave up only three hits the whole game. Windsor’s pitcher opened up the scoring with a solo homer to left field for an early 1-0 lead. Mathews pulled away for good with three runs in the third inning. Brent Smith doubled on a 1-2 count...
