Blue Devils fall to Cavaliers in homecoming game

The Mathews High School varsity football team fell to 3-4 following a 49-12 homecoming game loss to the visiting King William Cavaliers on Friday night.

In the first half, Stuart Anderson gave the Devils their first touchdown on a long run off a quarterback keeper. In the second half, running back Jarius Monroe took over as quarterback for a play and threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to receiver Anderson for the Devils’ second score. 

Anderson ended the night with 60 rushing yards, while Monroe picked up 45. Justin Ashberry had 20 receiving yards on the evening.

On defense, rover Edward Wade had five tackles. Linebacker Alec Thompson had six tackles. Defensive tackle Tylon Forrest had two tackles, Joe Hall had six, and John Edwards also had two.
