Blue Devils beat Indians, 35-14

The Mathews High School varsity football team picked up a big win on the road on Friday night, defeating the Northumberland Indians in convincing fashion, 35-14.

The Blue Devils only had 18 players who were healthy enough to compete last Friday night, and that number dropped to 17 before halftime with sophomore Jalen Matthews suffering an injury.

But those 18 players showed up with a great deal of intensity and a greater deal of determination to win. To start the game off, Elijah Willis caught a deep pass from Drew Hudgins to score the first touchdown for the Devils. Hudgins then scored a rushing touchdown for a second Mathews score.

Josh Foster picked up the next points for Mathews, running the ball for 40 yards and a TD. The senior running back had a standout day for the Devils, rushing for approximately 100 yards and three touchdowns.
