Blue Devils back on track

The Mathews High School varsity baseball team picked up two big wins over regional foes Essex and Lancaster this past week.     

The Devil boys hosted Essex last Wednesday, as sophomore Cody Tunstall got the start for the Blue Devils in desperate need of a win. Mathews allowed one run in the top of the first, and never lost the lead again from that point on. Ethan Armistead, Marshall Barrack and Tunstall led the top of the order to a steady lead, as the Devils were in control, 10-3, heading into a wild seventh.

Zack Jarosz had taken the mound for the Devils, as a wild Essex offense fought back and brought the gap to two with runners on second and third with the winning run at the plate. Brian Owens came on to get the final out and the save, while Tunstall picked up the victory, as well as leading the offense in hits.
