Blue Devils 4-0 after win over Red Devils

The Mathews High School varsity football team extended its winning streak to 4-0, beating Lancaster on Monday night by a 29-23 margin.

Mathews jumped out to an early lead with first-quarter rushing touchdowns by Dayshon Williamson (two yards), Chris Davis (20 yards) and James Pavik (one yard). Tyler Tillman was 3-for-3 on PAT attempts.

However, after that first quarter, Mathews struggled and fell behind to the homestanding Lancaster Red Devils, 23-21, in the fourth quarter.

"Mathews played with character," MHS head coach Paul White said. "We played really well early in the game but played really bad going into halftime. Lancaster is a good football team and well coached, but our kids played really hard in the second half. We made several mistakes, but effort and character can cover mistakes."
