Blue Devils 3-1 in recent action

In a very busy week for Blue Devil basketball, the Mathews High School boys’ varsity team went 3-1 with wins over Charles City, King William and West Point and a loss to Lancaster. The MHS boys now hold a 13-4 record overall.

Last Tuesday, Jan. 17, the Mathews boys easily defeated the Charles City Panthers, 57-39. They followed that up on Friday with a 56-35 thrashing of the King William Cavaliers. The Blue Devils’ lone loss came on Monday at Lancaster, 65-49. On Tuesday, Mathews defeated the home-standing West Point Pointers, 42-33.

In the Charles City game, Mathews jumped out to an early lead and was ahead by 17 points at the half, with only two team fouls. Charles City attempted to make a run in the fourth quarter, but it was too little, too late.

Stuart Anderson Jr. had the hot hand for Mathews with 14 points. He was followed by Elijah Willis with 11, Ethan Armistead with nine, Tylon Forrest with eight, Christian Williams with four, Michael Cooke with three, and Payt...
