Blue Devil track competes at K&Q

The Mathews High School track and field team had an eventful past week, traveling to King and Queen last Wednesday where they competed against teams from King William, Middlesex, West Point, and the host Tigers. The Blue Devils also competed in Saturday’s West Point Invitational against multiple teams.

At King and Queen, the girls played a phenomenal meet, with every team member placing first in all of their events. Elizabeth Moore placed first in the 3200-meter run. Nora Suthard placed first in the 300-meter hurdles, long jump and triple jump. Shalan Deese placed first in the high jump. Kate Small placed first in the long jump and triple jump for the JV.

For the boys, Lars Golden (JV) placed fifth in the 100-meter dash. Julian Wyatt (JV) placed eighth in the 400-meter dash and 12th in the long jump. Samuel Miranda placed fifth in the 1,600-meter run and 17th in shot put. Jon Jenkins placed third in the 3,200-meter run, with Ivar Golden placing fourth in that event.

On Saturday, a couple of Lady Devils competed at the West Point Invitational. Beanie Rowe placed fifth in the 1,600-meter run, and Deese placed fourth in the high jump.

This was the last meet of the regular season and the Blue Devils will travel to King William for the district tournament today, Thursday, May 21.
