Blue Devil harriers finish season strong

The Mathews High School cross country teams finished their regular season strong, as both the boys’ and girls’ teams defeated Lancaster, King William and Essex last Wednesday.

The boys won with 33 points, over the host Lancaster Red Devils (39), King William (82) and Essex (113). They finished 15-2 The MHS girls, meanwhile, scored 35 points to beat King William (42), Lancaster (59) and Essex (100), for their 31st consecutive win over two years. Some of the runners turned in their best times of the season.

Kyle Slaughter led the Blue Devils to their victory in 18:09 and placed first overall at the meet. Stepping up to take second place for the Devils was Elisha Kane at 18:55. Following Kane was the Mathews pack consisting of Sam Jasinski (19:18), Tucker Blackwell (19:19) and Phillip Machen (19:21).
