The Mathews High School JV and varsity basketball teams fell to Lancaster in a pair of home games Monday to open the 2021-2022 season. The JV Red Devils defeated the Blue Devils by a 62-12 margin, while Lancaster’s varsity squad dominated Mathews, 90-28. The MHS boys return to the court Monday when the Blue Devils host the visiting Rappahannock Raiders, with the first game starting at 5:30 p.m. At right, JV player Donovan Forrest tries to get past a Lancaster defender.
