Blood drive

The American Red Cross bloodmobile held on Tuesday, Dec. 2, at the Piankatank Ruritan Club building in Hudgins resulted in the collection of 55 units, according to blood drive volunteer Nan Cross. A total of 60 potential donors showed up to the event, with six deferrals, one unable to give a sufficient quantity and five double-red donations. The drive included a first-time donation from James Davis and David McKnight making his first donation in Mathews. Gallon pins were awarded to Catherine Owens (two gallons), Meg Carmine (three gallons), Cheryl Zecher (four gallons) and Valerie Kirkpatrick (five gallons). Among those helping out, above from left, were Casey Frame of the American Legion, Martha Frame, Nancy Katsuki representing the Mathews Woman’s Club and Red Cross volunteer Bert Cross. The next Mathews drive will be held on Jan. 27, 2026....
