Blood drive

The American Red Cross blood drive on Jan. 31 in Mathews resulted in the collection of 63 units, including eight double red donations, according to volunteer Nan Cross. The drive, which was held at the Piankatank Ruritan Club building, was sponsored by Mathews Baptist Church. Eric Chadwell was the drive’s only first-time donor, with Michelle Denkinger, Norwood Evans, Renee Neiman, Jason Scribe and Carole Thomason making their first donation in Mathews. Gallon pins were awarded to Robert Norris (one gallon), Mary Camp and Dora Smith (two gallons), Thomas G. Justis (four gallons), Stacy Swords (five gallons), Daniel Howlett (six gallons) and Joseph Allen (seven gallons). Shown here is Red Cross volunteer and first-time Mathews donor Renee Neiman.
