The Northern Neck Audubon Society will lead a winter bird walk at North Haven Beach and Bethel Beach Natural Area Preserve in Mathews on Saturday, Dec. 27. Frank Schaff will lead it.
A release said possible sightings include northern gannets, tundra swans, rails, bitterns, and numerous types of waterfowl, including surf scoters, buffleheads, merganser, lesser scaups and loons. The group will meet at 8:15 a.m. at North Haven Beach, the Mathews County public beach on Chesapeake Bay.
The beach is located on Rt. 643, Haven Beach Road, reached by following Rt. 198 (Buckley Hall Road) east from Mathews Court House to Rt. 642, then connecting with 643.
