Bing to lead this year’s Mathews Christmas Parade

Diggs resident Diane Bing has been pouring her heart and soul into serving others for many years, especially when it comes to fixing something good in the kitchen.

Bing, who regularly prepares home-cooked meals for students at Mathews High School and local Meals on Wheels recipients, is being honored as grand marshal the Mathews Christmas Parade on Saturday. The parade will begin at 1 p.m. along Main Street.

Bing’s “main job” at the MHS cafeteria is one she has held for over a decade, and she is the cafeteria manager there. Bing and her staff pride themselves in ensuring the students receive fresh, made-from-scratch meals, which many who eat in school cafeterias could only dream of enjoying.

“I just enjoy pleasing the kids with their lunches,” she said. “The children love their meals and they are very complimentary about them too.”

Bing arrives each school day by 6 a.m. and stays until 3:30, ensuring everything is done just right. Then, man...
