BEVERLY ROBERTSON HOLCOMBE

Beverly Robertson “BR,” Holcombe, 73, of Richmond, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2015.

Born in Richmond, Va., he was the son of Col. and Mrs. John Lee Holcombe of “Newstead,” Gloucester, Va.

BR was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Simmons Holcombe and is survived by his daughter, Katherine Anne Belair Holcombe. Other survivors include Fini and Pete Mann, Norina Pablo and Aurora Sullivan. BR was a lifelong friend of John M. Wiatt Jr. and cherished his relationship with John and his wife, Susan.

BR graduated from Gloucester High School and the University of Richmond with a degree in Economics. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Order of U of R. He was a member of the Gloucester Point Yacht Haven Club, the Richmond Press Club, the Mayo Island Boat Club, the Rotunda Club and the Bull and Bear Club. Civic responsibilities included membership in the Highland Springs Junior Chamber of Commerce, charter membership of the Bethlehem Road Lions Club, Richmond Junior Achievement, Scout Master for the troop sponsored by the Church of the Redeemer, and membership in The Lee Society of Virginia. He was a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church. He worked in management at Applebee’s and Mulligan’s Sports Grille.

His ashes, along with his wife’s, will be scattered by family in the Philippines.

BR loved hunting and fishing and was a student of Civil War history. Most importantly, he was a loving father, husband and friend, known for his kindness and compassion.

A memorial service will be held at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church at 1101 Forest Avenue, Richmond, on Thursday, Nov. 12, at 3 p.m. The family invites friends to join them at a reception in the Parish Hall after the service.
