Beverage awards GHS diplomas to 416

Former Gloucester High School principal Tony Beverage left his job in May for personal reasons, but showed up at William and Mary Hall in Williamsburg Saturday morning to hand diplomas to 416 members of the GHS Class of 2014.

Class salutatorian Patricia Shorter pointed out some things that made her class distinctive. This is the last class to complete a full year at Page Middle School. It is also the last class to graduate under GHS principal Tony Beverage and school division superintendent Ben Kiser. And it is the last class of students that were in school when the 9-11 tragedy occurred.

“Destiny is not a matter of chance, it is a matter of choice. It is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved,” Shorter said, quoting William Jennings Bryan. “Go achieve great things, Class of 2014, go continue your legacy of grand finales and exclamation points.”
