Betz, Adams earn all-state honors as MHS harriers 3rd, 4th

The Mathews High School cross country seasons came to an end on Saturday at Great Meadows. Although the teams did not come out on top, both squads had impressive races with the girls placing third and the boys placing fourth.

The girls finished behind Radford and Auburn with 84 points. The boys followed Auburn, Altavista, and Radford with 107 points. 

For the MHS girls, Rileigh Betz was the first Mathews runner to cross the line placing ninth overall with a time of 21:13. Betz placed in the top 15, making her an all-state runner. The next finisher was Skylar Lewis at 16th place in 21:36. Reilly Price (19th, 21:43) and Emma Hudgins (23rd, 21:52) were the next Mathews duo. Mathews finished the race strongly with Alyssa Curko (39th, 22:26), Tiffany Condron (41st, 22:33), and Maddy Hobert (47th, 22:46). All of the Lady Devils had improved times and performances.
