Betty Mayo: Horse enthusiast extraordinaire

A vivacious little lady, small in stature but large in passion: that is Betty Mayo of Gloucester, a horse enthusiast from early childhood. Betty, now 84 years young, lives a full and active life. Her spirit is one of joy with her sparkling eyes and easy smile.

From about the age of four, she had begged her parents for a horse. When they finally conceded at age 14, she was the one to care for it. A love of horses was born, and it has been her passion ever since. When asked approximately how many horses she has owned, she responded, “Gosh, I have no idea, but a lot.” As she speaks of them, Betty’s eyes light up and her whole face shows the zest she has for these animals. Currently, she has only one small horse named “Beamy,” the nickname for her dad.

Betty and husband Mike fulfilled their dream as they bought 16 acres that became their horse haven. Now alone, Betty lives on her farm with the horses she treasures. She is fortunate she says that the love of horses runs in her family...
