She had her first trip out on the water when she was only 2 months old aboard her dad, Fred Setterholm’s, workboat.

While she had a varied career, even including a stint in Nashville as a country music recording artist, Betty Lou Setterholm Sammons always found herself drawn back to Guinea.

Her hometown is now honoring her as its 2023 Guinea Jubilee grand marshal. The announcement was made at the conclusion of Sunday afternoon’s Guinea Heritage Day program, which was held at the Abingdon Ruritan Club building in Bena.

Guinea Heritage Day kicks off a monthlong celebration for the lower Gloucester County community, culminating in the 42nd annual Guinea Jubilee on Sept. 29-30 on the Abingdon Ruritan Club grounds.
