BETTIE J. RODDY

Bettie J. Roddy, 89, wife of the late Charles N. Roddy Jr. and a resident of Gloucester, passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital.

A native of Johnstown, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John L. Hoover and the late Hettie Callahan Hoover. She was a seamstress and a retired part-time teacher in Johnstown, Pa., and was a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church of Cobbs Creek, Va.

Mrs. Roddy is survived by two sons, David Roddy and his wife Burma of Gloucester, and Timothy Roddy and his wife Nancy of Plymouth, Mich.; four grandchildren, Matthew, Diana, and Matthew and Kaitlyn Dickerman; two great-grandchildren, Sevrine and Lucas, and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a sister, Helen Shaffer, and two brothers, John L. "Jack" Hoover Jr. and Ronald Hoover.

Funeral services were held at the Spring Hill Baptist Church in Cobbs Creek on Saturday, May 5, 2012, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Charles McDaniel officiating. Family joined friends one hour prior to the service at the church. A private interment was held in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Conway, S.C.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her memory may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 1472 East Parham Road, Richmond, Va. 23228 or to the Spring Hill Baptist Church, P.O. Box 92, Cobbs Creek, Va. 23035.
