Bethany UMC May Festival

Despite unseasonably cool temperatures and the threat of rain, members of Bethany United Methodist Church in Gloucester Point and neighborhood families enjoyed fun, food, face-painting and shopping at the church’s May Festival on Saturday, May 7. Several local vendors and Bethany’s Bazaar Committee displayed items for sale. Above, Kevin Kiley and his grandson Henry get an ATV ride from Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue member Jack Whitemore. Below left, festival-goers get an impromptu Maypole Dance lesson from Cathy Raines, who created this visual centerpiece of the festival along with her husband Rob, while Wendy Hogge created the floral topper. Below right, Donna Lane enjoys the bounce house slide, which kept both the young and young-at-heart entertained. There were also demonstrations of fire equipment, and a variety of music played throughout the afternoon, adding to the festive atmosphere.
