Bertha V. “Hon” Woolard, passed peacefully on January 9, 2026 in Gloucester, Va.
She was predeceased by her husband, John “J.K.” Woolard, and son, David E. Woolard. She was born in North Carolina on September 9, 1928.
Bertha was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was always there for her family and many friends in every way possible. If you were sick, she was there. No questions asked. She was a very kind woman always willing to help and never asked for anything in return. She was like Florence Nightingale always taking care of the ones she loved. She loved to bake cakes and crochet. She made and gave away many. If you received one you were very special.
Bertha is survived by her daughters, Patricia Kayer, (Barry), Cathy Raper; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two sisters; one brother, and many nieces and nephews.
Above all, Bertha was a selfless nurturing individual who loved deeply and was loved by all who had the good fortune to know her. We will miss her.
A graveside service was held on Wednesday, January 14, 2 p.m. at Rosewood Memorial Park, 631 N. Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach.
The family would like to thank the many caregivers for their devotion and passion.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice. You may offer condolences at ww.kellumfuneralhome.com.
