Bernard Lee Everett Sr., 79, of Hardyville, husband of Corlis Figg Everett, passed away quietly at his home on March 9, 2018.
Born in Richmond, he was the son of the late Elma Bowles Everett and Luther Anthony Everett Sr. He accepted Christ at an early age. He was baptized at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart where he also served as an altar boy. He savored his youth on the James River.
He attended Sacred Heart Cathedral High School where he enjoyed playing basketball. He was a devoted son to his loving mother. Bernard spent many years traveling as an experienced brick mason and master builder. He volunteered his time in the Richmond community before earning a vocational teaching licensure and became an award-winning instructor at Highland Springs Vo-Tech.
After his retirement as a teacher and earning the title of master brick mason, he enjoyed many years of travel with his wife, spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and cooking his favorite meals to share. He was a hard-working, brave, caring man and a loving father. He took great pride in his work and dedicated his life to helping others.
He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Corlis Everett; his sister, Barbara Everett Farmer, and brother, Luther “Dinky” Anthony Everett Jr. Bernard was blessed with a large and loving family. His life will forever be cherished in the lives of his children, Bernard “Chickie” L. Everett Jr., David A. Everett, Cynthia “Cyndi” Everett Lipes, Anthony “Tony” L. Everett, and Virginia “Ginny” Everett Ulsaker; 10 grandchildren, Rachael Everett, Kelsey Lindblad, Luke Everett, Carley Everett, Clayton Everett, Brianna Lipes, Mikayla Lipes, Cara Parham, Corey Everett, Carl I. Ulsaker; five great-grandchildren, Alaina Jones, Bronwen Everett, Caroline Everett, Aiden Everett, Ryann Parham, and a host of devoted family members and friends.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April, 7, 2018, at Lower United Methodist Church in Hartfield.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to the Children’s Hospital of Richmond or the Lower Middlesex County Volunteer Rescue Squad.
