Bernard Eugene (Gene) Sterling of Oroville, Calif., died March 28, 2015 at age 81 at his home.

He was the youngest son of the late Capt. Noah Franklin and Lillie Ruth Hall Sterling, born Jan. 12, 1934 in Naxera, Gloucester County. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Lorraine S. Jenkins, and his brothers, Harry Byrd, Herbert Hoover and Charles Curtis Sterling.

He leaves his wife, Beverly Mederos Sterling, and her children; two sisters-in-law, Mildred M. Sterling and Sylvia L. Sterling in Gloucester; seven nephews, and three nieces and their children, all of whom loved him dearly.

A career military retiree (U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force), he is to be buried on Sept. 3, 2015 in Arlington National Cemetery.
