BENJAMIN MORRIS

Benjamin Morris, 69, of Cobbs Creek, Va., passed away Oct. 9, 2013.

He was born Jan. 14, 1944 in Jackson, Miss. He attended Infantry School in 1960 and went to Viet Nam on his first tour where he switched to Aviation and was assigned as Instructor of Aircraft Pneudraulics in February of 1967. He completed OCS in October 1967 and graduated as a 2nd Lt. Ben graduated from St. Leo College and attended Troy State University, graduating in 1995 Summa Cum Laude with a Master of Science in Human Resources Management. He retired from the U.S. Army after proudly serving his country for 30 years. He was a Viet Nam veteran after serving two tours in the Viet Nam War. After moving to Cobbs Creek, he continued serving his country in the Civil Service for 15 years.

Ben will be remembered for his sense of humor and his kind heart. He filled his days doing for his family and those in need.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Eva Morris; two sisters, Betty Sanders and Janice Morris, both of Louisiana; a son, Fred Morris of Cobbs Creek; a daughter, Elizabeth (Beba) Abrams and her husband Michael of Bohannon; seven grandchildren, Amanda, Timmy, Tommy, Heather, Seth, Nikki and Jeremiah, and four great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank all friends, professional staff and strangers for all the help and support during Ben’s lengthy illness.

The family received friends on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, from 4-6 p.m. in Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, 160 Main Street, Mathews, Va. Refreshments provided by the Central Village Homemakers were served from 4-6 p.m. during the visitation in Central U.M. Church, Church Street, Mathews. Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Graveside services with military honors were held at 3 p.m. in the Albert G. Horton National Cemetery, 5310 Milner’s Road, Suffolk, Va.
