BENJAMIN M. HANDY

A funeral service for Benjamin M. Handy, 85, of Gloucester, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7 in Carnesale Funeral Home, New Jersey. He died Sunday, Jan. 1, 2017.

Mr. Handy was born in Winslow, New Jersey, and moved to Virginia in 1991. He retired after 25 years as a police officer with the Winslow Township Police Department. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1955-1957. Mr. Handy was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.

He was predeceased by his stepsons, Stanley and Kevin Spotwood. 

Survivors include his wife, Margaret L. Handy; a daughter, Kimberly Handy-Matthews; two stepdaughters, Linda Thomas and Judy Martin; three brothers, James Handy, Charles Handy, and Robert Handy; three sisters, Louella Freeman, Marie Covington, and Beatrice Moorman; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren.

A viewing will be held from 9-11 a.m. Burial will follow the service in Winslow Methodist Cemetery.
