Gloucester County’s newest ice cream shop is Bean’s Ice Cream located at Tidemill Shopping Center. The new location is the second for the Poquoson-based ice cream shop. Bean’s serves Hershey’s Ice Cream every day from noon to 9 p.m.

Owner Jenna Horning is a Poquoson local with a business degree from Old Dominion University. She opened the first Bean’s Ice Cream location last July after years of planning. She said that she had primarily been a stay-at-home mom since her youngest was born and was ready to get back out there. When the timing was right, she opened the only ice cream shop in her area to great success.

The name for the ice cream shop came from her own nickname, Jenna Bean. She said that had been sketching ideas for logos while waiting to pick up her kids one day, when she landed on it.

Opening in Gloucester was a fast transition. Horning said that the company signed the lease for the new location in mid-August and opened its doors on Sept. 12.
