Beach Bum BBQ is Mathews County’s newest restaurant.

Owners Lynne and Joe Davenport decided to change Lynne’s Family Restaurant, which they had operated on Buckley Hall Road for 22 years, “from a conventional mom-and-pop to a barbecue house,” as Joe described it.

They closed for two weeks for remodeling. On March 24 they reopened to what Lynne said has been “very good business.” They offer breakfast, lunch and dinner, with specials daily. The restaurant is open six days a week, is closed all day Mondays, and closes Sundays around 4. (Beach Bums likely will be closed this Sunday.)

As the new name implies, customers can expect lots of barbecue on the menu. Joe said they purchased a smoker which they set up to the rear of the building. There they slow-cook an assortment of meats, including pulled pork, pork bellies, turkey, chicken, fish, shellfish and beef brisket.
