Bazzani, Smith, Mack among Gloucester winners

In local Gloucester races, York District supervisor Phil Bazzani was elected to a second term, while his at-large colleague John C. Meyer Jr. was narrowly defeated in his reelection bid by former Gloucester School Board member Kevin M. Smith.

In the county’s other contested election, Brenda Mack defeated Damien Kelly in the open at-large seat on the school board. Mack received 56.64 percent of the vote, while Kelly had 42.31 percent.

Bazzani received 55.12 percent of the vote, beating out Kevin S. Farmer, who earned 44.69 percent among York District voters. Smith won by 162 votes over Meyer out of 11,377 cast in the countywide election.

Supervisors

Bazzani thanked the citizens for allowing him and Farmer to have a positive race. “Farmer was a gentleman.”

Bazzani said his main emphasis will be on economic development. Also, he wants compensation for county employees to be raised if possible.
