Baystars take several wins

Several Baystars youth soccer team recorded wins last weekend.

Adelie

The Baystars U10 Adelie team won its first game against the division’s top ranked Smithfield Blaze, 1-0, over the weekend. Avery Shinault scored the sole goal of the game.

Hurricanes

The U10 Hurricanes defeated the Chesapeake IBXFC U11 Waves, 9-1, over the weekend. Theo Collins scored five goals throughout the match. Declan Long scored twice and Abel Williams and Jack Sheridan scored once each. Goalkeepers Spencer Leigh and Jep Doley combined for five saves. The defense was led by Braiden Fry.

Threshers

The U13 Threshers achieved a 6-0 shutout win over the Tidewater Sharks at Woodville Park on Saturday. Chase Newton scored four times and was assisted by Frank Enciso twice and Seth England once. Brady Neilson and Mitchell Shortt scored once each. Both goals were assisted by England.

The defense was led by Diego Zeledon, Matthew Noehl, Logan Stenersen and Roger Green. Goalkeeper Ian Freeman allowed no goals from the Sharks.

Tigersharks

The U12 Tigersharks defeated OBX Storm, 4-1, in Nags Head, North Carolina, over the weekend. Peter Perez scored all four goals for the Tigersharks.

Whitecaps

The U11 Whitecaps split a pair of matches over the weekend. The team fell to the VA Legacy Peninsula Wizards, 1-0, Saturday in Williamsburg. The teams were evenly matched throughout, but the game was ultimately decided by a single first-half goal from Legacy. Whitecaps goalkeeper Lux Despinis recorded 15 saves during the match.

The Whitecaps defeated the previously undefeated Beach FC 2015 Pre-NPL Valencia, 7-2, at Woodville Park on Sunday. Donnie Wolford scored the first goal with an assist from Colton Bergstrom. The pair then reversed their roles for the second goal. Ryan Seay and Ronen Lane worked together to score the third goal for the Whitecaps. Despinis recorded three saves in the opening half, conceding just once.

Bergstrom added another goal early in the second half, followed by Seay who was assisted by Triffon Luechauer. Seay and Luechauer both scored unassisted goals to secure the win. Fett Kutch recorded one save for the Whitecaps.

Despite the loss the team suffered on Saturday, the Whitecaps remain at the top of the Virginia National Premier League Division 3 standings.

Tsunamis

The U10 Tsunamis defeated the VA Rush Killer Bees, 2-1, Saturday at Woodville Park. Levi Phillips Tovar and Wesley Hendricks both scored with assists by Zachary Mathis and Jaden Lewis, respectively. Goalkeeper Sebastian Newman recorded 17 saves during the match.
