OSPREYS: The Baystars U10 Ospreys continued a three-game winning streak with a 4-2 win over the Beach FC Vipers at the Hampton Roads Soccer Complex on Saturday. Brady Bell had an outstanding offensive game, scoring all four Osprey goals. He was assisted by Aidan Houtz on a corner kick, Hunter Young on a penalty kick and Jackson Scalf. Strong defense by Bryce Carter and Randy Schwartz in the first half and Gavin Skay and Young in the second secured the victory. The Ospreys will take on the Rush Sharks at Woodville Park on April 10.
ADMIRALS: The Baystars U12 Admirals got by the Smithfield Arsenal, 4-3, on Saturday in Carrollton Nike Park. Trailing 1-0, co-captain Tristan Woodard evened it up for the Admirals with his fifth goal of the season. Forward Jayden Beyer next scored with an assist from Frank Zoll to give the Admirals a 2-1 lead but Smithfield evened the score, 2-2, going into halftime. The Admirals regained the lead on a second half goal from Woodard and midfielder Elton Hudgins Garciatello extended the lead to 4-2 off a well-placed corner by Woodard. Smithfield added a late goal to make it 4-3. Chase Lawson had the Admirals’ goalkeeping duties while Jonah Marina and C.J. McNeill anchored the defense. The Admirals take on WBSU U12 Swarm on April 10 in Chesapeake.
MARLINS: The Baystars U12 Marlins tied, 3-3, with the Beach FC Strikers at the Hampton Roads Soccer Complex on March 20. The Strikers scored first but Ava Santellanes responded for the Marlins to tie it at 1-1 going into halftime. The Strikers struck first again in the second half, but Lexi Spangler received a pass from Santellanes and put it in the net to tie it again at 2-2. Santellanes scored the go-ahead goal unassisted to make it 3-2 but the Strikers evened the score again at 3-3 with six minutes remaining and neither team was able to break the tie.
MARAUDERS: The Baystars U13 Marauders posted a 3-0 victory over the Chesapeake SCS Avengers on Saturday at Woodville Park. Corey Skay had a hat trick with all three Marauder goals, two assisted by Gaige Walden and one assisted by Max Bell. Justin Pence made great saves in goal for the Marauders, with teammate Jonathan Gretz coming in for a save in the first half.
BARRACUDAS: The Baystars U19 Barracudas lost a 2-1 match to the Virginia Beach City ’04 Academy on Sunday at Norfolk Collegiate. Bobby Cox, Elijah Miller, Andrew Teagle and Jack Ronan had shots on goal for the Barracudas but it was new ’Cuda player Keegan Winter who scored after an on-point pass from Miller. Key defensive efforts by Alex Hogge, Trevor Johnston, Lewie Lawrence, Spencer Phillips and goalkeeper Riley Jaquysh kept Virginia Beach to only two goals.
HAMMERHEADS: The Baystars U11 Hammerheads defeated the Legacy Wizards, 9-1, on March 27 at Woodville Park in the team’s inaugural game with the Virginia Soccer League. The team capitalized on improved passing, assists and a consistently spirited effort. Bryce Fischer and Aaron Hines each scored twice and goals were provided by Caden Thompson, Haydin Arquette, Ashton Taylor, Ryder Talbot and Conner Duval. Goalies Drew West and Fischer commanded a stout defense that only allowed a single goal on a penalty kick. Jackson Mandell and Duval were also standouts on defense.
