Gloucester Baystars youth soccer teams returned to their home field at Woodville Park over the weekend with wins across the board.
Captains
The Baystars U13 Captains picked up two wins over the weekend against the Beach FC, 3-2, and Chesapeake United, 4-2.
The Captains’ offense was led by goal scorers Dylan Andersen, Owen Thomas and Hunter Young. Defense was led by Joey LaCosa, Ayden Lockett and Brek Chavis. Aaron Green and Aydan Timbal served as goalkeepers during the matches.
Hurricanes
The Baystars U9 Hurricanes played both the Chesapeake United Wildcats and Beach FC Timbers on Saturday.
The Hurricanes defeated the Wildcats, 6-3. Theo Collins scored two goals, followed by Declan Long, Bryce Dautzenberg, Audrick Martinez and Jack Sheridan with one point apiece. Sheridan also recorded two assists during the match. Goalkeepers Sebastian Newman and Gabriel Franklin split time in the net with Franklin recording five saves.
During the second game, the Hurricanes tied with the Timbers, 3-3. Collins and Sheridan scored two and one goals, respectively, for the Hurricanes. Newman and Franklin recorded five saves each.
The Hurricanes will travel to Portsmouth to face the Carolina Lightning this weekend.
Stingrays
The Baystars U12 Stingrays defeated the CSL Honey Badgers, 2-1. The Stingrays scored both of their goals in the first few minutes of the game. Ellis O’Mara scored first on a ball thrown in by Brynlee Grigonis. Louisa Doley was then able to score on a Hadli Sellers assist. Braylin Brochu served as goalkeeper and secured five saves during the match.
Whitecaps
The Baystars U10 Whitecaps competed in two matches over the weekend.
The Whitecaps played their first match on Saturday, defeating the Beach FC Riptides, 3-0. Ryan Seay scored in the first half and achieved another goal in the second half, which was assisted by Colton Bergstrom. Triffon Luechauer then scored on a penalty kick.
Luechauer spent the first half of the match in the goal and marked eight saves. Noah Ford took over goalkeeping duties in the second half and recorded one save. The Whitecaps recorded 29 goal attempts throughout the match.
The Whitecaps played the Chesapeake SC Galaxy on Sunday, recording their fifth shutout win of the season with a final score of 2-0. Ronen Lane and Seay both scored in the first half of the match. This was the Whitecaps’ sixth overall win of the season, maintaining their top spot in the TASL U11 Boys Sky Division. They will play again this weekend, taking on the Chesapeake United 2014 Eagles.
