Bay School to get new look

The Bay School Community Arts Center in Mathews will soon have a new look, thanks to a façade improvement grant being funded by Mathews County’s Community Development Block Grant. The county was awarded the grant by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development in 2013.

The school purchased and installed new gallery windows, on-building signage, lights, and a front awning in 2015 as the first phase of its planned façade renovation, said a press release. Now the school is using the grant program’s matching funds to renovate the patio, as well.

For the project, the concrete will be removed and replaced, the ramp to the driveway and sidewalk will be re-graded to meet ADA requirements, and the brick wall will be capped to provide seating, said the release. In addition, a new street-side sign and lighting will replace the hanging sign that was lost to a recent storm.
