Bay School raises $50,000 at auction

The Bay School Community Arts Center’s 19th Annual Auction, held on Sept. 23, was indeed An Affair to Remember, earning $50,000 for the Bay School. All proceeds will be used to support the school’s programs and operation, a release said.

The event was held at Samarkand on Woodas Creek, the home of Karen Tiller and Mark Polivka of Hawaii. Close to 200 guests enjoyed the music of The Phun Doctors, a classic rock and oldies band from Chesapeake, as they browsed in the silent auction tent. Hors d’oeuvres and a buffet dinner were catered by White Dog Bistro Restaurant.

A live auction offered vacation retreats, a catered brunch, a Turkish rug, a Turner sculpture, a whimsical papier maché rabbit, and a variety of other collectible art treasures. The last item auctioned was the “Traveling Jacket,” a black and white tuxedo featuring artistic designs. Auctioned each year, this jacket goes home with the highest bidder.
