Bay School purchases adjoining property

The Bay School Community Arts Center in Mathews has purchased a parcel of land that will allow for the school’s future expansion.

The one-acre parcel with a two-story frame house is located at 54 Maple Avenue, directly behind the Bay School. Business director Debbie Brown said that the property was the only land contiguous with Bay School property that directors had expected would one day become available for purchase.

Brown added that the school was delighted to be able to work out an agreement with the previous owner, listed in county records as John A. III and Rebecca L. Warwick. The purchase price was $80,000.

There are many ideas for ways in which the school can use the house and land, said Brown, but it will take several months to clean up the property and determine the best way forward. She said the one thing that is clear is that it will allow for expanded parking at the busy school.
