Bay School offers variety of art camps

The Bay School Community Arts Center in Mathews is offering a variety of art camps for children and teenagers this summer.

Subjects range from creating fairy doors to learning about prehistoric cave painting to writing and performing a play, including making costumes and masks and painting a backdrop. There are camps on book-making, drawing, creating magical dragon eyes, throwing clay pots, decorating cakes, painting elephant watercolors, and more.

According to its website, the school is trying something different with this year’s summer camp fees. There is a cost for each class, but on a “pay-what-you-can” basis. When they enroll, students pay only what they can afford. If they can’t afford to pay anything, the website says, “then don’t pay.” Those who can afford to pay more to help someone else may donate to the scholarship fund.
