Shannon Alexander, owner of Bay Country Kayaking, offers full-service kayak eco-tours of local waters and wetlands for private groups. Custom tours are offered on request, lessons are available, and school tours appropriate for all levels, kindergarten through college.

Alexander meets customers through her website, baycountrykayaking.com, and the covers the waterfront, so to speak, on the Middle Peninsula, Williamsburg, Newport News and the Eastern Shore.

She established Bay Country Kayaking in 2012 with inspiration from her father, Captain Alan Alexander, who was offering fishing excursions aboard York River Charters while she was guiding kayak trips on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. “He and I are essentially equal partners in Bay Country Kayaking,” she said. “We worked together closely the first year in particular, as we came up with the name, logo and mission for our new business … creating our tour offerings and volunteering on the Gloucester County Blueways Committee.”
