Barbecue man and caterer cooks with his own special blends

Having lived in the city for 16 years and having been involved in the corporate world, Montell Jenkins, also known by friends as Mooch, returned to his home in Kilmarnock. He then began a new career operating Mooch’s BBQ at Thousand Trails Chesapeake Bay (Thousand Trails Campground) in Gloucester. Knowing how to cook came naturally for Montell—he had learned from his mother and grandmother at a much earlier age.
“We first operated in a pop-up tent. We were asked if we would think about moving into the recreational building in the pavilion which has a full kitchen with ample seating. We moved in.” That was early this year.
Mooch’s BBQ is closed on Monday and Tuesday but for the remaining week it is a fully operating restaurant. Daily menus are posted both on site and on Facebook, featuring large selections at moderate prices.
