Barbara Roane Williams of Wicomico, died on Saturday morning, April 15, 2017, at the age of 63.

Barbara was born in Hampton in 1953, and in 1960 her parents, Willie Hunter Roane and Mary Carmine Roane, moved to Gloucester County where they resided in Wicomico. Barbara attended Gloucester Public Schools and graduated from Gloucester High School in 1972, the class salutatorian. She graduated from Longwood College, magna cum laude, in 1976.

She married Fil Williams in 1977, and they resided in Arlington for many years. Barbara worked for several U.S. government agencies and finished her career as a computer systems analyst for the Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board in 2009. Upon retirement, she moved back to Gloucester County to live in her parents’ old house in Wicomico. She was a good friend, wife and mother.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Rosalyn and Mary Ann Roane.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Fil Williams; son, Roane Williams; daughter, Jocelyn Williams, and many relatives and friends in the area.

Funeral service conducted by the Rev. Chris McMillan will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 20, 2017, at Providence Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Rosewell Memorial Garden Cemetery. The family received friends Wednesday evening April 19, from 7-8:30 at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point.
