BARBARA DALE AMBROSE

Barbara Dale Ambrose, 75, of Upperco, Md., passed away on March 24, 2013 at her home.

She was born on Jan. 22, 1938 in Hampton, Va., to the late Herbert Doyle and Martha Howard Ambrose.

Barbara was a graduate of Longwood College majoring in Mathematics and Chemistry. Barbara was involved in many interesting areas of work, including an analyst with NASA space flight systems and as an analyst for ABC News on the 1968 presidential election. She developed the first Reads Drug automated inventory and ordering system. Barbara was Program Manager for the new automated sortation facility for FedEx in Memphis in the 1990s.

She earned her Master’s Degree in Business from Harvard University, and became Director of Systems Engineering for Northrop Grumman retiring in 2003 and then worked as a consultant with France and Belgium in 2004-2007 to develop new integrated mail handling facilities. Barbara was an Officer in the Hanover Road Association working to preserve the rural and agricultural character of the Route 30 community in Baltimore County.

She was preceded in death by her step-mother, Wilma Virginia Ambrose.

She is survived by her life partner, Patricia Fallon of Upperco, Md.; sister, Joan Lindsey of Gloucester, Va.; nieces, Becky Slate of Kernersville, N.C., Teresa and John Altemus of Gloucester, Va., Patty Lindsey and Todd Wolpert of Norfolk, Va., Shannen Jenkins of Gloucester, and Andy Lindsey of Freeport, Fla.; great-nieces and -nephews, Kim and Jason Beck, Melissia and Nathan Varnadore, Ryan, Kyle and Kolin Jenkins; and great-great-niece and -nephews, Kinley Varnadore, Donovan Varnadore and Isaac Beck.

Funeral service conducted by the Rev. William Corey will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 29, 2013, at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. Interment will follow in Providence Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.
