Earlier this month, five members of the Mathews High School Marching Blue Devils attended camp on the James Madison University campus. They were among 900 students from around Virginia and the surrounding area who were there to develop their leadership and music skills. They also got a taste of college life as they lived on campus in the dorms. In just a little over three days they learned an entire field show and performed for their families and friends on the JMU Dukes football field. Instruction was led by current JMU students, faculty and alumni with guest instructors coming from as far away as Texas. MHS participants included, from left, Bethany Davis, Hunter Owens, Cate Christopher (Marching Band Camp), Jordan Sadeg (Drum Major Camp) and Lily Manning (Color Guard Camp). The Marching Blue Devils will be back on the field this fall during halftime of home football games, as well as in competition.
