Ballot set for election in Mathews

The deadline for filing candidate papers to run for office in the 2013 elections ended Tuesday with only two candidates qualifying for two open seats on the Mathews County Board of Supervisors.

In contrast, five candidates will be vying for two seats on the Mathews County School Board. The position of Clerk of Circuit Court will see a contested race, as well.

Incumbent O.J. Cole will be running to retain his seat on the board of supervisors, while newcomer John T. "Jack" White III will be the only candidate for the seat that current supervisor Neena Putt will vacate at the end of the year.

Putt, meanwhile, will make a bid for the 98th District seat in the Virginia House of Delegates currently held by Keith Hodges of Middlesex.
