Bayside Youth Ballet, formerly the Diggs School of Dance, has more than a new name. It is also undergoing other changes after the retirement of founder Debbie Diggs, with new leadership and programming.
The school now shares the same name as the long-established ballet company, Bayside Youth Ballet, said a press release, and it is now under the leadership of artistic director Danile Giesy and assistant director Hope Hunter.
The nonprofit youth performing company, founded by Diggs in 1993, will carry forward the studio’s long-standing legacy of excellence in dance education, said the release, but with expanded offerings for the broader community.
As part of its renewed mission, Bayside Youth Ballet will offer a range of community classes for dancers of all ages and experience levels, said the release. New this year is “Tot and I,” a class designed for children ages two and up to explore movement, music, and creativity alongside an adult caregiver.
